Prof. Joseph Hun-wei Lee
On behalf of the International Association for Hydro-environment Engineering and Research (IAHR) I am delighted to invite you to participate in the 39th IAHR World Congress to be held in Granada, Spain, from July 4th to 9th, 2021. For more than seventy-five years, the biennial IAHR World Congresses have brought together leading experts to help address the world’s pressing water environment engineering challenges. The event has traditionally provided researchers and decision makers the opportunity to share recent advances and experiences, identify emerging technology trends and engage in lively debates that have positively impacted our world.
Following the last IAHR Congress held in 2019 in Panama City, Panama under the theme “Water – Connecting the World”, the main theme of the 39th IAHR World Congress will be “From Snow to Sea” focusing attention on the importance of considering the integral water cycle to address present and future challenges.
Since its creation in 1935, IAHR is known as a leading international organisation of engineers and professionals in fields related to the water environment. IAHR stimulates and promotes research and its application – by sharing new research paradigms and networks, setting industry standards, informing best water management practices, and nurturing young professionals. Through its powerful knowledge products and networks, IAHR makes important contributions to sustainable development in many ways.
At the upcoming Congress IAHR will unleash its new Strategic Plan and present exciting knowledge platforms and prominent speakers on global water environment issues including climate-induced changes to water resources, adaptive management, artificial intelligence (AI) and smart water management, ecohydraulics, and policy forums. I therefore welcome you to join us and share with us your work. I look forward to welcoming you to Granada in July 2021!.

On behalf of the Congress Organising Group (COG) of the 39th IAHR World Congress and the International Association for Hydro-Environment Engineering and Research (IAHR), we are delighted to invite you to join the 39th IAHR World Congress in 2021 in Granada, Spain.
Spain is a leading country in Hydro-Environment Engineering, strongly involved with IAHR. We are also a hub among Europe, Asia, Africa and the Americas, a gateway for the World. None or very easy customs procedures are required for most of the countries around the world, with no visa needed for over 100 countries. Granada has great transportation connections – more than 70 international flights (destinations) to Malaga Airport and more than 200 through Madrid and Barcelona Airports – and huge accessibility from all parts of the world.
As the news about the pandemic continues to evolve and some major events around the globe have been cancelled or postponed this year, we would like to reassure all the participants in the 39th IAHR World Congress (4-9 July 2021) that the congress organizers remain fully committed to delivering an exceptional event and that our top priority is ensuring everyone’s health and safety. Rest assured that we are working diligently to explore the most appropriate options and are preparing for every contingency in order to guarantee that the hard work of our participants is not impacted by this pandemic.
We are all facing an unprecedented global upheaval and the congress organizing committee is actively involved in conversations about this constantly evolving situation. While we explore how best to care for the health and safety of every participant, contributor, and partner, this challenging environment has also provided us with new opportunities to implement innovative approaches, reach a broader audience, and be open to hybrid event models in a time of uncertainty.
The 39th IAHR World Congress ‘From Snow to Sea’ invites you to participate in this rewarding and groundbreaking IAHR Congress. Don’t forget to submit your abstract and/or proposal for a special session; we will make certain you have a wonderful experience.
